Trump’s 90-day reprieve on tariffs ends next week, on 9th July. Talks are ongoing with trading partners but right now no one really knows how these deals are going to look.
One thing is very likely — wine, like many other things, is about to become more expensive in America. And whilst I fully appreciate that wine might not be high up your priority list of purchases right now, if you drink it, you might want to consider buying a few bottles if you can.
To make it clear, I don’t mean stockpiling — no one needs to clear out the wine aisle, leaving nothing for anyone else (we saw too much of that behaviour during the pandemic) — just thinking a little further ahead than your next bottle or two.
If you don’t live in America, I think this advice still stands on its own as something to consider when buying wine for the longer haul or starting a cellar (which can mean anything from a basement-full to a few cases under the bed — my “cellar” for instance is in my closet).
