Tell me what style of wine you like to drink and I'll tell you what to buy next
A little diversity goes a long way
OK, I have to admit that I came up with the idea for this before Trump decided to threaten 200% tariffs on all European wine imports.
But I still want to be your one-stop wine recommendation shop today because, well, if you’re in the US, you might want to consider stocking up on wine whilst you can still buy it at a reasonable price.
Plus is anyone else holding out hope Trump won’t follow through on this threat?
Today, I am going back to my roots of recommending wine, as I did day-in-day-out in my wine store and bar. I truly miss doing this IRL. It was the best bit of my job, honestly.
But virtual is the next best thing.
So here’s how it’s going to work. If you’re a paid subscriber, tell me a style, grape variety or bottle you particularly like to drink, and I will give you a list of alternatives I think you’ll enjoy.
For instance, you could say you like to drink light, fresh whites like Pinot Grigio and I’ll tell you to drink more:
Muscadet from France
Chablis from France
Aligoté from France
Dry Rieslings from Germany especially Mosel
Vinho Verde from Portugal
Albariño from Galicia, Spain
Grüner Veltliner from Austria
Or you might tell me you like to drink oaky reds from Rioja and I’ll tell you… well, you’ll have to comment to find out.
In my ongoing commitment to always adding value for my paid subscribers, today is a paid subscriber perk. As a free subscriber, you’ll still be able to read the comments, but you will only be able to contribute if you are a paid subscriber ($5 a month or $50 a year). To do that, all you need to do is click the big blue button:
I’m looking forward to seeing what you send me. Comment away, folks:
We have a shop here that posts little signs, if you like Pinot Grigio, you’ll like this. It’s really helped me find some new wines. I’ve screenshot your list, I look forward to shopping!!
🙂
I like whites - not too light - chardonnay (not overly oaky), viognier, white burgundy - I like it to have some flavor :)
