and don't forget the Club-staurants. we are overrun with them in Miami where I live. outrageous prices, bad food and a thumping booty bass sound track s you enter.the room. ( maybe another article idea!... ).

I can totally imagine that. We don't get a lot of those here in Portugal (some back in my London home) but I can't say I would ever frequent them

The avocado toast line made me smile.

I find family run restaurants to usually be a good sign. One of my favourite restaurants right now is an Iranian place. It’s family run and oozes passion. Ditto a Tibetan and Italian place I know.

Everyone is that little bit more invested. You feel the love and commitment.

100%. And honestly, I love avocado toast, I'm just not keen on its ubiquitousness! Or that I have to pay a fortune for it.

Portugal is plagued with fake fancy restaurants. Worse even, it’s plagued with fake breakfast fancy places (Copenhagen Coffee Lab is just one of them). There’s a good trick to spot them: if they belong to Plateform or use some of the communication agencies specialized in fake fancy, they will be fake fancy places :)
