Fascinating and I’m looking forward to hearing back to Portugal as soon as I can. Are you familiar with the Wines&Co in the Algarve? They are a distributor and retailer. That’s where I buy wine in the Algarve. A guy called Thiago run things there. Great guy, cool team.
Thiago was a wine buyer at Vale Do Lobo but then moved over to distribution at Wines&Co. He likes finding small Portuguese growers, which is exciting for me. They’ve got a few shops in the Algarve and they deliver across Portugal and Europe (probably beyond).
Portuguese female winemaking is really cool. Anna is a powerhouse, I love her Daqui and Lourinho (pity the design of her bottles has changed for the worse afterwards, now they look like exact copies of thousand others - and there is even a producer with the same color palette and lettering in northern Italy
Such a great read! I was blown away by the Portuguese wine industry when I was there last year and now I’m curious to try wines from these leading women.
Thanks for sharing this! I'm heading to Alentejo in just over a week so I will get in touch with Anna Jørgensen - would be great to visit Cortes de Cima while I'm there if possible!
She's awesome! If you can't visit, you must try and find some of her wines. My husband works for her distributor so I can find out where they are stocked close to where you're staying (Evora, was it?)
Thank you for introducing me to these amazing winemakers. I live in Portugal and look forward to seeking them out!
Great stuff Megan! Yes definitely look out for them
Congrats to all of these women especially Odile!

I don't know them but will check it out!

The Vintner’s Daughter label in Australia is also a great example of female led wine making and great wine.
